The GOP debates drag on. They are more reminiscent of a reunion of the Keystone Cops than they are of an actual debate. But, they are giving Americans a valuable insight that they might not get otherwise. The debates and the candidates are telling us exactly who they are and what they stand for.
And who they are and what they stand for is offering us a scary scenario should any one of them reach their objective. Which is to become president of the United States.
The things they would do isn't what you would normally expect from a group of people running for president. They don't offer solutions to putting people back to work. They don't offer any way or formula for ending poverty or feeding the nearly one in six hungry children of our nation.
They have absolutely no plans to rebuild our nation's crumbling infrastructure. They don't even mention promoting a living wage for all. They never talk about ways to rebuild our middle class. No these are not issues that they are interested in.
What do they want to do for our nation and its citizens? Here's where it gets scary. They want to take us back to the golden days. To a time when things were a lot better in this country. That is for the elite few. (for them things haven't never been better than now so why would they want to go backwards?). They want to restrict who can vote, by passing a national Voter ID law that would end up being pretty much the same as the old Poll Tax dodge that kept the poor and disadvantaged and African Americans and other impoverished minorities from voting.
They want to the government (a government they hate so badly they want to shrink it so they can drown it in a bathtub) to take control of a woman's body and tell her what she can and cannot do with it or for it. They want tell gay and lesbian citizens who they can and who they can't marry. They hate the thought of gays being able to choose their lifelong partner.
They want to send gays and lesbians back into the closet in the military. They devoutly wish these things to happen despite all the evidence to the contrary that openness among gays in the population and in the military has proven that these are non-issues and do nothing to change the effectiveness of military units.
The empirical evidence as to gays who marry shows that gay marriages are stronger and more cohesive and that children raised in a gay household are better educated, less prone to violence and happier by far than those in a heterosexual environment. And contrary to the notion among the far out right wingers, children raised by gay couples do not become gay!
But, these guys running to unseat Barack Obama don't care they are out to save us all from ourselves and return us to our Christian ideals. Which are? Send us back to the church of their choice.
Definitive studies show that divorce rates are highest in states where more people profess church attendance than in states where there is less piousness. These studies also show that in those same states murder rates are higher and teenage pregnancies are up.
In states that permit same sex marriages and unions the divorce rates are down, crime is down, teen pregnancies are down and people tend to be more productive and happier. So what are these clowns peddling? My grandfather would say they are peddling pure unadulterated Cow (pardon my grand-dad's language) Shit! And he had a theory on that of which I will relate at some other time.
They are trying to save us from things that we should be embracing. Instead of trying to fix things that are wrong with our nation and help its citizens have more of the opportunities to cultivate their better natures and live a better life they are trying to scare the Bejesus out of us with bug-a-boos that either don't exist or are non-issues.
We, the American people need to send these clowns a message we don't want any more snake oil salesmen running our country! Go back home and found your groove. The Oval Office ain't for you or any one of your ilk!" ----- Bob Bearden
